EZ Cleaning Circuit Board Contacts

Jan 30, 2019 | Tech Tips, General Imaging, Siemens

In this tip, Kevin has a simple yet very helpful way to clean the gold fingers on circuit boards to keep your Siemens imaging system running smooth. When you have a question about your Siemens Medical Imaging equipment, you need an answer, that’s where DirectMed Imaging comes in!

Today, I want to talk about circuit board assemblies—specifically, dealing with oxidized or dirty gold contacts (gold fingers). Over time, these contacts can accumulate oxidation simply from exposure to air, or they can get dirty, causing intermittent issues that require reseating the cards frequently.

A great tool to address this is a standard pink eraser:

  1. Gently rub the eraser over the gold contacts to clean off any oxidation or debris.
  2. Once you’ve restored the contacts to a like-new condition, reinsert the card into your system.

This simple method often reduces (or eliminates) the need to repeatedly reseat circuit boards to maintain proper system functionality.
